After much discussion amongst the committee members last year, it was decided that the 2014 award list would be compiled via a nomination process involving the 2014 committee members as well as Maine librarians. By this process, the committee developed a much larger pool of nominees for this year’s award…a development that is very exciting (and a tiny bit daunting!), but behind which the committee members have thrown their full support.
The 2014 Longlist is comprised of an astounding 131 titles, and showcases works by talented debut writers, from NoViolet Bulawayo to Paul Yoon, as well as works from highly-regarded veteran authors, from Khaled Hosseini to Amy Tan. Happily, there are short-story collections in addition to traditional novels to explore in this year’s list; plus, you can click on the cover in the list to find publishing and access information for each title.
The shortlist is chosen in the early spring, and the three finalists will be unveiled to the Maine reading community in summer for voting.
